Health and Safety Practices

Sugarland Learning Academy's top priority has been the health and safety of our families and staff. Our school has always had rigorous health and safety protocols in place since our opening. The protocols include:

  • Persistent hand washing by children and staff, such as before and after meals, after coming in from the outdoors, after activities, after using the restroom and etc. These frequent times for hand washing times are immersed into our curriculum and daily schedules.

  • Frequent disinfecting and sanitizing of toys and surfaces on a daily basis.

  • Early closure to allow staff to deeply disinfect and sanitize

  • Daily cleaning of school by cleaning personnelafter hours.

  • Regular Health & safety, First Aid/CPR training for administration and staff.

  • Requiring any children or staff with a fever  or with contagious illnesses to return home and stay home until fever free for at least 24 hours free for at least 24 hours or be advised of returning to school by a doctor.

Newer protocols we have implemented in addition to the health and safety procedures above are:

  • We ensure a 10 or less student classroom ratios required by the Virginia Department of Social Services

  • Placing signs in every classroom to keep signs of illness top of mind

  • Training teachers on common signs of COVID-19 and ways to limit the spread of the illness

  • Early closure to allow staff to deeply clean and disinfect

  • Health & safety training for staff

  • Limiting the people who enter the building to only staff and children

  • Restricting outside visitors

  • Temperature checks for children and staff

  • Drop off and pick up of children at entry point of school
